Family is the centerpiece of the African-American community. That's why PacifiCare, a UnitedHealthcare Company, created Generations of WellnessSM, which serves the health needs of African American families. This unique initiative was designed to help make our African-American members guardians of their own good health. By emphasizing awareness and education, and by promoting new attitudes toward healthy living, we're bringing a greater level of parity to the quality of health care and health coverage for African-Americans.

To improve the health care outcomes of African-Americans in the communities we serve by providing culturally sensitive health education, health improvement opportunities and access to quality health care services.

At PacifiCare, we strive to eliminate the disparity in access to health care coverage and provide high-quality service to our members. That's why we've developed culturally sensitive programs, like Generations of Wellness.
Health Facts
Did you know that African-Americans are twice as likely as Caucasians to have diabetes?1 In addition, African-Americans have higher rates of death for cardiovascular disease.2 This community also has higher rates of hypertension and obesity compared to other ethnic groups.3 Unfortunately, the negative statistics don't end there.
One of the ways that PacifiCare is helping to address these, and other health disparities is by developing educational awareness campaigns and programs that teach families about health risk factors or warning signs. As people become more educated - and more empowered - about their health, those statistics will change. And every person of every ethnicity will be free to enjoy the best possible quality of life.
